Kwasi Nyamekye Writes: The Unfair Treatment Against The People Of Western North Region Is In Breach Of The 1992 Constitution

The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, Nana Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III was the first to come out publicly that the Akufo-Addo led NPP government has been unfair to the Western North Region for not appointing anybody from the region into his government apart from the Regional Minister and his Deputy despite the fact that the government has 126 Ministers and over 100 CEOs.

Nana Okogyeman further blamed the government for being discriminatory against the people of Western North Region because all the appointees who were cleared from corruption allegations are still at post with the exception of their son Alfred Obeng though he was equally cleared by BNI and National Security through similar investigations.

The United Kingdom branch of Sefwiman Nkosuo has added their voice to the crusade of:

STOP THE DISCRIMINATION & UNFAIR TREATMENT AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF WESTERN NORTH REGION

At the extraordinary meeting held in Birmingham yesterday 26 July 2019, the Chairman of UK branch, Dr Simon Nkoah in his speech commended and thanked Nana Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III for his boldness in calling a spade a spade. He also expressed their gratitude to Nana Elluo Payin III, Sefwi Nsuosuahene who is also the Kyidomhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area for actively supporting the crusade.

Dr Nkoah in an angry mood stated that the two issues raised by Nana Okogyeman are all supported by the 1992 Constitution and President Akuffo-Addo being an experienced lawyer must be fully aware of that. He summarised Article 35 Clause 5 Sub-clause 6(b) of 1992 Constitution which provides that:

The State must prohibit discrimination and prejudice against people on the grounds of place of origin, circumstances of birth, ethnic origin etc and in achieving this objective the State shall take appropriate measures to achieve reasonable Regional Balance in recruitment and appointment to public offices

He quizzed that how can the only Chief Executive Officer from the region be removed and not reassign after he had been cleared of any wrongdoing followed by a Press Conference to that effect whereas other appointees under similar circumstances are all at post and yet the hypocrites want the people of the Western North Region to keep quiet and praise the President because he has created Western Region North. He added that if merely creating a region is enough justification to endorse a President for a second term then Dr Kwame Nkrumah would not have been overthrown. "Creation of a region is one thing and fairness to the people to enable them get their fair share of the national cake is another thing" Dr Nkoah stressed.

Dr Nkoah lamented that on the face of these constitutional requirements if the President will not do the needful then at the appropriate time they will advise themselves.

Kwasi Adomako Nyamekye.
