Mensah wins Lipton Monthly Medal Golf

Ebenezer Tetteh Mensah returned a net score of 69 to win the first Lipton Bi-Monthly Medal Golf Championship for 2010 played at the Tema Country Golf course on Saturday. Ernest Opoku came second with 73 net with James Otoo taking the third position with 74 net, when he beat Theophilus Asampong on count-back while Isaac Adams placed fifth with 75 net after he also beat M.B.A. Hassan on count-back. In the Ladies segment, Grace Afriyie came first with 66 net, Esther Antwi took the second position with 68 net, while Harriet Appiah placed third with 73 net when she beat Florence Etwi-Barimah on count-back. The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition which was open to amateur golfers throughout the country was sponsored by Unilever Ghana Limited. Mr Leonard Kweku Okyere, Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club thanked the company for supporting the Club in its developmental efforts. He called on other corporate bodies and institutions to also assist with sports development in the country. Mrs Sylvia Acquah, Category Manager (Foods Division) of Unilever said the company was determined to support junior golfers to develop their talent. She said the company was also sponsoring Hole Number Nine and 18 and would also sponsor professionals' tournament in the near future.
