Rapper, Trigmatic, says the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has failed in its mandate of providing support to players within the industry.

According to him, he has not seen much done by the ministry in its two and half years of creation.

He attributed the nonperformance of the ministry to the difficulty people (those in political office) have in seeing the benefits the country can derive from tourism, arts and culture.

“I haven’t seen much from the creative Arts Ministry and the thing is, if the people don’t recognize the relevance of the industry, it is difficult for them to do much,” he said.

The rapper, born Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei, said the creative arts industry is only recognized by decision makers during campaign seasons and other social events after which not much attention is paid to it.

According to him, the industry can only grow when it is seen like all other industry or sector in the country as a revenue generating entity for the state.

“When the industry is used all the time and seen as an industry which only entertains, then it will be a problem, but if it is seen as a revenue generating one, then much attention will be paid to it,” he noted.

Trigmatic, who is also the Director of Elections for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) further attributed the poor performance of the Ministry to the selfish attitude of industry representatives on government boards. He says such persons do not push for the interest of the entire music and creative arts industry but rather focus on their selfish interests.
