Shutdown Of Karpowership; No "Dumsor" Expected

The Ministry of Energy has assured Ghanaians that the shutdown of Karpowership will not lead to power outages.

Karpowership will be shutting down today, August 13, 2019

Karpowership Ghana Company Limited has in a statement announced that its 470MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan will be off the national grid from August 13, 2019 as it finally relocates the powership to the Western Region.

The Powership will depart from the Tema Fishing Harbour on Thursday, August 15 and would berth at its new location within the Sekondi Naval Base on Friday, August 16. In the light of the relocation, the Powership would be off the national grid for a maximum period of 17 days to enable us to carry out various pre-commissioning works to successfully connect to the 330kV transmission lines in Sekondi,” the statement said.

Throwing more light on this on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo" Morning Show, the Public Relations Officer of the Energy Ministry, Nana Damoah said the process will take three weeks.

Asked if the relocation will cause power outages, he said "I don't foresee that happening".
