Farmers In Chinderi Able To Store Farm Produce Due To President's "1 District, 1 Warehouse" Initiative

One of the flagship programmes of President Akufo-Addo’s government, "1 District, 1 Warehouse", has been successfully implemented to facilitate the production and storage of surpluses under the “Planting for Food and Jobs" initiative.

It could be recalled that the government pledged to construct a 1000-metric ton capacity warehouse in each of the 216 districts  dubbed “1 District, 1 Warehouse” which was duly launched last year.

The President has rolled out this initiative at Chinderi in Krachi Nchumuru district of Oti Region.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Stephen Kwasi Appiah in an interview with Peacefmonline.com noted that peasant farmers in the district are being educated to fully utilize the opportunity created by President Akufo-Addo to help prevent their farm produce from rot.

The DCE expressed excitement over the initiative and commended the President disclosing that about 95% of peasant farmers in the district find it difficult to store their farm produce after harvest.

He was hopeful this programme will resolve the challenges.

Hon. Appiah also believed the implementation of the 1D1W will encourage farmers not to hastily sell their produce after harvest, particularly during periods when market prices are generally low.

“The warehouses will help address poor farm-level practices, poor handling and poor storage activities that expose our farm produce to moulds, rodents and other pests. I am assuring the peasant farmers to overcome their fear and embark on serious farming because demand and supply can be regulated to ensure good favorable prices for the farmers…The 1D1W is here to take care of post harvest losses", he stated.

He further added that “it takes a President's vision and will power to do all these things and I commend President Akufo-Addo for such a good initiative".
