Ekumfi Pineapple Factory To Be Commissioned Soon – 1D1F Coordinator

Coordinator for the One-district, One-factory policy of the NPP government, Gifty Ohene Konadu has disclosed that the Ekumfi pineapple factory will soon be commissioned.

According to her, the Secretariat is waiting for a date from the President who has been duly informed that the factory has been completed and awaiting his commissioning.

She said the factory has been fully set up with the various test run programs conducted to ensure the factory becomes fully operational.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, she explained that unlike the Komenda sugar factory that was revamped by the Mahama administration, where there was no sugar cane to feed the factory, enough pineapple has been cultivated to feed the factory once they start operations.

The Chief of Ekumfi has also instructed every citizen and natives in Ekumfi to start their own pineapple farms to feed the factory.

She added that a lot of the factories are in line to be commissioned.

Ekumfi Pineapple Processing Factory, the first factory to be constructed under the government’s ‘One-District One -Factory’ project is expected to employ over 5000 people when completed by mid-2018.

General Manager of the company, Daniel Kwarteng, said about $5million is expected to be invested into the project from the $2billion Exim bank Chinese loan announced earlier by the government.

It is expected that the company will pay back the loan in seven years. Chinese contractors as part of the package will construct the facility on a 10-acre land.

The Ekumfi Fruit Processing Company factory when completed will process pineapples for the local and international markets.

Currently, the company cultivates the fruit and seeks to expand its operations into processing, Mr. Kwarteng said.
