Government Releases Ghc 195 Million For Free SHS – Director-General GES

Director-General for the Ghana Education Service Prof. Opoku Amankwah has disclosed that the government has released a total of 195 million Ghana cedis for the free Senior High School policy of the government.

He says the amount represents 30% of the total amount that is supposed to be released by the government for students who are gaining admission into the various Senior High Schools.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he added that monies for other activities for the free SHS policy such as feeding will also be disbursed soon to the various Senior High Schools.

He, however, warned various Heads of Institutions who have been taking money from parents and guardians to desist from it.

He said such acts undermine the government’s free SHS policy and that the punishment of sacking those Heads of institutions still holds.

Touching on the placement for the various Senior High Schools, he assured parents of all students who passed and qualified for placement will be duly placed.

President Nana Akufo-Addo launched the free SHS education policy at the West African Senior High School (WASS) in Accra on Tuesday, September 12, 2017; it was a fulfillment of his long-held campaign promise as far back as the 2008 elections.
