Ahead Of NPPs Congress: Tarzan Talks Salvos

A frontrunner in the race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship slot, Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey (aka Tarzan) has issued a stern warning to nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the partys flagbearer for the 2008 general elections and Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, also a one-time flagbeaer aspirant not to interfere in the partys congress slated for Saturday, February 27, 2010. According to him Akufo Addo and Alan have no right and no business at all to interfere in the congress, alleging that some leading members of the party have covertly presented surrogate candidates and puppets to represent their parochial and selfish political interests when they get the nod on Saturday. He therefore told delegates to put party interest above personal interest and not allow themselves to be swayed by money or egos. Nana Akufo Addo reportedly said on Citi, an Accra-based private radio station yesterday that he will not pretend to be neutral about which persons get elected into various national executive positions as the party goes to conference on Saturday. He told the stations morning show host, that though he would not publicly declare support for any of the contenders; it would be hypocritical on his part to act as though he had no preferences among the various candidates. to say that you are neutral to who are the best to prosecute the agenda of an organization, with the greatest of respect it sounds hypocritical to meI am not going to come out to say vote for X or Y but that I have personal preferences in the party, I do and it is completely right that I do so said the 2008 flagbeaer. When this statement was made known to the Ghana@50 boss during a telephone interview with this reporter, he yelled; who is he to determine his preference, in what capacity was he determining his preference both Alan and Nana Addo have no positions in the party and they should stay away from this congress because their preferences are not necessary. Nana Akuffo Addo last Tuesday in a statement advised delegates to ensure regional balance in the new crop of national executives to be elected at the Conference this weekend. As the party puts up a spirited fight against the Alan/Nana menace which is seeping through the pores of the ranks and file of the party, unsubstantiated rumours are rife that both Nana Addo and Alan are working vehemently to get as many of the executives to be elected on their side.
