The Vice Chancellor [VC] of the University of Education, Winneba [UEW], Reverend Father Professor Afful Broni is in the hot waters for allegedly disbursing a whooping amount of money belonging to the school for his personal use.

Peacefmonline.com can authoritatively report that he has been dragged before the Auditor General [AG] and the Economic and Organised Crime Office [EOCO] by Acting Finance Officer of the institution, Mr Bruno Bajuoase Chirani.

The finance officer who is against the operations of his superior wants the Auditor General as well as EOCO to conduct a thorough forensic audit into the alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of over GH¢6m by the ‘man of God’.

He stated in his petition, a copy of which Peacefmonline stumbled upon, that Reverend Father Professor Afful Broni approved and withdrew some huge amount of monies from the school’s coffers to his staff under the Institute of Distance and E-learning 1DEL program and allegedly ‘pocketed’ the lion share.  

Read below his statement…

"I write in my capacity as Council Member representing convocation and the Acting Finance Officer of University of Education, Winneba. Recently, the Officers you sent to undertake Special Audit at the University of Education, Winneba were compromised. Although I cannot specifically say how much was paid them. I know the Vice- Chancellor gave them money. Proper audit was not done. There are some misappropriation of funds and illegal withdrawals made".

"The Vice-Chancellor. Rev. Fr. Prof Afful Broni approved the withdrawal of Five million, Seven Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 5,700,000.00) from the Universities Account which he supposedly alleged was honorarium for Staffs under Institute of Distance and E-learning 1DEL he retained quite a substantial amount and only paid a peanut to the beneficiaries".

"Funds were laundered through the accounts of Paa Badu Construction Ltd to a tune of Nine Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand and Forty Ghana cedis (GHS 924,540.00) for Lawyer John Darko, a Council member to cover the rot. Payment were made to Mr Paa Kwesi Abaidoo Esq. as legal fees although the University has employed the services of an external solicitor by name Peter Zwennes Esq. and a team of in-house lawyers who are being paid by the government every month. Possibly prosecute Rev. Fr. Prof Afful Broni and the Registrar Osei Barimah".
