A Ghanaian technology company, HSE Masters, and a Norwegian partner have developed a mobile software application to promote safety and environmental standards at the workplace.
Known as the HSEQ App, the software will assist industries, organisations and individuals in the management of occupational health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) issues and incidents.
It is also to make safety compliance easier.
The app can be used to conduct safety environment and quality management system audit and to make incident reporting.
The software enables workers to keep record of HSEQ incidents and issues at the industrial site, which can be used for analysis to inform behaviour at the workplace.
According to the developers, the software would also aid in HSEQ investigations.
Collaboration
Speaking to the media in Accra about the technology, Mr Carlos Akyeampong, the Managing Director of HSE Masters, said it was collaborating with universities and colleges across the country to train students on safety measures before they joined the world of work.
He stated that the organisation’s focus included risk assessment and management, proactively identifying hazards at workplaces, development of incident reporting tools and building of incident statistics.
According to him, the company had also provided customised safety training such as firefighting techniques, first aid training sessions and International Satisfaction for Organisation (ISO) management system training to staff of notable companies in the country.
“There is a huge gap when it comes to practising safety and developing safety policies in Ghana; we want to support, advise, train safety officers for companies and also outsource staff to work with them,” he said.
Mr Joel Bansah, the Commercial Manager of the company, said the HSE Masters would liaise with the government and policy makers to ensure that safety issues were given the needed attention, adding that there were not much policies in the area of safety in the country.
According to him, the company’s mandate was to act as champions, advocates, supporters and trainers to everyone whose work was committed to the safety and well-being of others.
