Voting Time Cut: Are You Ready? – Allotey Jacobs Asks Jean Mensa

Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has welcomed the EC’s proposal to change voting time in the 2020 elections.

The Electoral Commission is considering reducing the voting time from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., instead of the normal 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the EC boss, Madam Jean Mensa, the new time will allow for the counting of ballots and collation of results before night falls and to facilitate the early declaration of election results.

On Wednesday's edition of Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Allotey Jacobs wondered if the commission is ready for what they are proposing.

"It's a good move but can that be achieved? The EC has its own teething problems, transporting materials and so on; are they ready for it?" he queried.

The former NDC Central Regional Chairman further urged the EC to pilot its proposal with the district assembly elections "to see their weaknesses and strengths to avoid skirmishes in 2020".
