NDC Shocked Over Raymond Archers Conviction

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern about an Accra High Courts conviction of the Editor of the Enquirer Newspaper, Mr Raymond Archer, for contempt of court. Mr Archer published a number of articles against a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Akwasi Adjei, while he was a Minister of State. As much as we respect the decision of the court, especially as a party that believes in the rule of law, we wish to say that Mr Archer is the one we hold in high esteem as one of the fewc onscientious journalists committed to the broadening of the frontiers of freedom and democracy in Ghana. A released signed by the national Propaganda Secretary of the party, Mr Richard Quashigah, noted that as an ardent fighter against corruption, Mr Archer had worked hard over the years to expose many corrupt personalities. It stated that Mr Archer, as an investigative journalist, had in the face of great adversity demonstrated tremendous courage, competence and professionalism in his work, which stood him out as a role model for quality journalistic practices. Unlike some journalists believed to have been bribed by the previous regime. Mr Archer has sincerely stood the test of time as one true to the calling of a journalist, it stated. The release urged him not to be daunted by the courts decision but continue courageously in his duty to Ghana as a vanguard for true investigative journalism. We are convinced that in the fullness of time, he will be vindicated in this matter, the statement said, adding, at the hilly and craggy point, truth stands."
