If CSE Lands On Speaker's Table, The Majority Leader Will Run Into The forest, Minority Leader Will Jump Into The Sea Naked

The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has said the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye will burn down Parliament House if the controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is ever tabled before the legislature for consideration.

Despite the denial by the Ministry of Education that CSE, which has been widely criticised by Christian and Islamic clerics as “satanic”, has not been approved for use in basic schools, there continues to be an avalanche of flak against the sector minister and the Ghana Education Service over the subject.

Some critics see CSE as a subtle way of exposing children to pro-LGBTQI issues, since, according to them, some of the material urges pupils to be open-minded and accommodating to sexual orientations of all sort.

Commenting on the ongoing discussion, Mr Hammond told journalists he will personally resist any attempt to introduce any policy which is against Ghana’s religious beliefs and customs.

He said: “If it turns out that Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh [Education Minister] is behind this agenda, I won’t mention his name again and we’ll do everything possible to stop it… Ghana is blessed so let’s not introduce anything that promotes homosexuality in the country…

“When a child gets to the right age, he or she will learn about sexuality... Ghana is a religious country and we won’t allow such things. We have examples of Sodom and Gomorrah when we read the Bible and Quran and so we won’t fall for it.

“If this matter gets to the Speaker of Parliament’s table, he’ll burn parliament; the Majority Leader will run into the forest and the Minority Leader will jump into the sea naked”, Mr Hammond said.

“We are all angry with the idea and I tell you on authority that we, in the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo, will not introduce this in the country…”
