Heads of SHSs call for regular managerial courses

Heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Volta Region on Saturday called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to institutionalize regular refresher managerial courses for heads of SHSs to ensure good management practices at schools. They said this had become necessary in view of the enormous managerial challenges that heads of SHSs faced in their administrative duties. The heads made the call at a day's workshop on effective management skills and conflict management organized by the GES for them in Ho recently. The heads contended that they faced a lot of challenges in managing the schools and needed regular upgrades in managerial practices. They said though they have been trying to cope with situations in their schools, continued human, material resources and institutional management courses were needed to respond well to the challenges. Mr Godfred Osei-Mensah, Resource Person from Edmat Foundation urged heads of SHSs to develop core managerial competencies and skills to be able to handle managerial challenges. He advised them to make use of resources available at their schools to achieve maximum results. Mr Osei-Mensah asked them to set targets that were Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound (SMART). Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive advised the heads of SHSs to put in their best and be effective managers at their schools.
