Obrafour And Sarkodie Shine On BBC

Two of Ghana�s most revered local music acts, Obrafuor and Sarkodie, over the weekend had their share of international spotlight when a song on Obrafuor�s latest album which also features Sarkodie, was aired on the BBC�s Africa Service morning show, Network Africa. The song, �This life�, which happens to be one of thirteen songs on Obrafuor�s �Asem Be Ba Dabi� album, was rotated heavily by the program�s host Akwasi Sarpong formerly of Joy FM, during the 4:30 to 5:00am slot of the 4 part daily magazine show. The 30 minute magazine programme places emphasis on major news items around the continent including sports, features and music. In its bid to promote African music, the programme makes way for original songs made by some of the continent�s artistes on every edition. This has over the years, helped many African artistes who see the platform given by the Bush House based station as en enormous contribution to the industry. This latest exposure for the two Ghanaian acts is a major boost. Both are fast getting appreciable levels of review with their current individual efforts. While Obrafuor�s album is tremendously getting heavy rotation on urban and rural radio, with his controversial �Kasiebo� track making all the headlines, Sarkodie is fast establishing himself as a force to reckon with in contemporary Ghanaian music. Just recently, the Tema based act signed-on to American record label, Konvict, partly owned by Senegalese born singer, Akon. The young burgeoning tongue- twisting act has it all going for him as the deal from the American label, whose authenticity was challenged, has been confirmed to be true. In a recorded video released by the main headline act of the label, Akon, the singer confirmed the signing and assured Sarkodie�s teaming fans that very soon, they would get to see fruits of the collaboration. The one minute long video had Babs, the man in charge of Konvict�s Africa research, recruitment and productions, sitting by the singer and nodding his head in approval of every detail his boss was churning out. Meanwhile, Sarkodie is due to perform in the United Kingdom on Ghana�s Independence Day.
