Rawlings� Accuser For Court Today

Nana Darkwa Baafi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, who was involved in a dramatic arrested and hurriedly remanded in prison custody and later bailed about a fortnight ago following comments he made on Top Radio about the fire outbreak at the former President, Jerry John Rawlings Ridge residence is expected to make his second appearance in court today. Nana Adarkwa was remanded in prison custody few hours after his arrest at the Accra-based Radio Station for alleging that he had evidence that former President Rawlings burnt down his own house. The NPP activist, who is said to be one of the communication directors of the largest opposition party, was picked up by armed police men at the Radio Station on February 18th, 2010 few minutes after his pronouncement. The Special Aide of the former President, Mr Kofi Adams, in the company of some armed police men, led by the Greater Accra Regional Crime Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department stormed the radio station and arrested him. Barely six hours after his arrest the NPP activist was arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Justice C.K. Willson who remanded him immediately in prison and to reappear today, Wednesday, 3rd March, 2010. He was charged with publishing false statement with intent to cause fear and alarm to the general public. The arrest of the NPP activist generated a lot of controversies in the country as the Minority in Parliament boycotted proceeding in solidarity with Nana Darkwa. Some youth wings as well as executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also registered their dissatisfaction about the issue.
