Editorial: Prof. Fiadjoes Refreshing Assurance

The Chairman of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC), Professor Albert Fiadjoe, has assured Ghanaians that the commission is ready to listen to all shades of opinion and suggestions during the countrywide collection and collation of views towards the review of the constitution. He added that as part of their strategy, the CRC will engage the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) and other stakeholders to reach as many people as possible in the districts of the region in the sharing of ideas. This, Professor Fiadjoe, indicated will help secure the destiny of the nation and also push the country towards a successful path. Professor Fiadjoe was speaking when the Governance Africa Foundation, a non-governmental organisation paid a visit to the offices of the commission and donated 100 copies of pocket-size books of the 1992 constitution to the commission to help them in their discourse. The assurance from the chairman of the CRC that it will given the opportunity to all Ghanaian to share their views, opinions and suggestions during the review of the constitution is very refreshing. We are hopeful that issues of national concern will be given the necessary attention by the CRC in order to shape the constitution of Ghana. The Enquirer expects that grey areas of the constitution will be debated thoroughly through different stages of consultation by various bodies before being submitted to the President for final approval. We are also of the view that there should be a national referendum on the entrenched provisions of the constitution, such as the all mighty ex-gratia. This and many other consultations should be vigorously pursued by the commission to ensure an enhanced citizen government engagement.
