Portsmouth have now officially been deducted nine points for going into administration, the Premier League have confirmed today. Pompey are the first ever Premier League side to suffer the ignominy of going into administration and had hoped that the league would show some leniency over the punishment. However, following a hearing in London at which both Andrew Andronikou, the administrator, and David James, the team's goalkeeper, were present, the punishment was confirmed. "Following the High Court decision that Portsmouth FC's administration is valid, the Premier League convened today to apply the league's rules and policies in relation to a member club suffering an event of insolvency," a Premier League statement reads. "As a result, Portsmouth FC have been deducted nine points with immediate effect. "As part of this process the board met with the administrator to agree how we wil work together for the remainder of the season to ensure that the club is able to fulfil its commitments."
