Essien Must Apologise To Ghanaians - Tony Yeboah

Former Black Stars striker, Tony Yeboah has called on Chelsea and Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien to apologize to his fans and Ghanaians for absenting himself indefinitely from international duties. The 28 year-old announced his return to the national team on Sunday after almost a year's absence from the national team. Michael Essien announced that he would be available for selection in June when Ghana plays against Congo Brazzaville in the 2012 Nations Cup qualifier and against South Korea two days later in an international friendly. His decision to take a temporary break from the national team received a lot of flack from a cross section of the public. However, speaking to Citi Sports, Tony Yeboah said though not compulsory, an apology from the former Lyon player would be enough to calm the tempers of the many peeved Ghanaians. For me I think Michael has to come out and apologize to his fans and Ghanaians. Football without supporters is not interesting because supporters always support and motivate you, so he must just apologize to the fans. He said while players have the right to take a break from national duties, how they go about it could later cause problems. But I dont think that it is a problem (for Essien)because it is a decision he took and he has realized that the decision was not right.
