Minister Of God Rebukes Politicians

THE BISHOP of the Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. James Baffour-Awuah has chastised politicians for continuously trading insults among themselves even though the Church has been doing its best to pray for them to desist from it. The Church during worship times, offer prayers for peace, good governance and prosperity for all politicians but it is highly unfortunate that politicians from all political persuasions do not respect one anothers views and always allow their expression of views to turn into insults and sometimes assaults, he noted. Rev. Baffour-Awuah made these remarks while addressing the 32nd Annual Synod of the Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church at the Wesley Cathedral in Sunyani. It was on the theme Connexionality and the Development of the Diocese. This attitude of politicians according to him sometimes confuses the church members in their prayers and even in their choice of leadership for the country. The Methodist Church in Sunyani Diocese in the 32nd Annual Synod vehemently oppose and condemn the practice of the politics of insults or political insults most especially on our FM stations, he added. He also appealed to government to set up a reconciliation committee comprising the indigenes of Dagbon to negotiate for peace in Dagbon instead of fanning passions on television and radio discussions. He assured government of the churchs support and prayers as they deal with the issue and advised them not to politicize it. On the returnees from Libya and other troubled countries, the minister of God appealed to the families concerned to embrace them warmly and treat them well to make them feel at home. He urged government to help re-integrate the returnees into the society and employ those who are qualified to work. He added that the Church is ready to provide a conducive atmosphere for counseling and teaching of the scriptures to bring hope to them. He continued that since evangelism is the first priority of the Methodist Church, the Sunyani Diocese was able to evangelize and organize crusades thereby gaining more souls. This, he said, has resulted in the opening of four other circuits in the Diocese. Rev. Baffour-Awuah used the opportunity to thank the traditional leaders in the Sunyani Diocese for the support they have given to the church in terms of land to put up church buildings, commercial ventures, hospitals and clinics, among others. The outgoing Bishop also thanked the MPs, MCEs and DCEs in the diocese for supporting them in the rehabilitation and building of Methodist schools in the rural and urban areas thereby cancelling the shift system in certain areas.
