An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Beatrice Naab, a self-styled gold merchant, in connection with the theft of 10kg of gold belonging to a Turkish investor. Beatrice�s husband, ex- corporal S. K. Naab, is also being investigated for his alleged involvement in the case. Beatrice, together with some two policemen, is said to have bolted with the 10kg of gold she sold to the investor at the cost of $350,000.00 while returning from Motion Mining Company at Akwatia in the Eastern Region, where they bought the said gold. The police have begun investigations into the travel itinerary of Mr. Naab since his wife had insisted that he was domiciled in the Americas, even though the victim had identified a photo of Mr. Naab, in a military uniform in the parlor of Beatrice, as one of the two policemen who arrested them. The Director of Vetting and Crime Analysis (VCA) Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Denis Abade, told DAILY GUIDE that the complainant, who is the Managing Director (MD) of Imanet African Minerals, was introduced to Beatrice Naab aka Mary somewhere in April 2011 as a gold merchant who owned a concession in Akwatia. Beatrice promised to deliver 10kg of gold for $350,000.00, to which the complainant agreed. Following the bargain, the complainant instructed Beatrice to process documents to cover the transaction. On Thursday April 28, 2011, the complainant travelled with Beatrice to Apinaman, near Akwatia and bought the gold from Motion Mining Company Limited, after which the two set off to Accra. While approaching Nsawam, two policemen stopped the complainant�s vehicle, arrested the two without any provocation and abducted Beatrice with the 10kg of gold, leaving the complainant stranded in an outlandish place. On Friday May 13, the complainant, in the company of the police, stormed the residence of Beatrice where he (complainant) identified a photograph of Samuel Naab in a military uniform as one of the two policemen who snatched the gold. One Emmanuel Tetteh was earlier arrested in connection with the case but he told the police that he was only an errand boy and has since been granted police enquiry bail to assist in investigations. The VCA boss said a manhunt had been launched for Sampson Okuampa Agyeman, a certain Oyoko and Alex, all of whom he alleged played various roles in the transaction. The police believe that Beatrice may be hiding within Tema and its adjourning towns and appealed to the public to assist with information. The police stressed that anybody who volunteered information leading to the arrest of Beatrice and her accomplices would receive a very handsome reward.
