President Mills Commends MTN

President John Mills has commended MTN Ghana, the leading telecommunications company in the country for the good reputation it has built for itself since its entry into the telecommunications market in Ghana. �MTN has a good reputation in Ghana and as a government we will cooperate with you to ensure that you get good returns on your investment.� He called on MTN to reciprocate this goodwill by ensuring that Ghanaians continue to benefit from the network�s presence in the country. The President said this when the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Michael Ikpoki paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle Osu on Monday. The meeting was to officially introduce Mr. Ikpoki to the government and people of Ghana, following his appointment as the new CEO of MTN Ghana. The President was particularly impressed that the network has created a lot of employment opportunities for especially the youth, saying Ghana abounds in very rich human resource base and commended MTN for tapping the resources to their advantage. He indicated that the MTN brand is patronized by a lot of Ghanaians and challenged the company to continue to invest in infrastructure and other areas to ensure that subscribers continue to derive value for money. The CEO, on his part, expressed MTN Ghana�s desire to continue to work with the government and participate fully in dialogue on policy and legislative issues. He said the company, in its contribution towards creating a strong economy for real jobs, has over 120,000 points that sell MTN products with an estimated direct financial support to over 500,000 Ghanaians. The new CEO took the opportunity to reiterate MTN�s commitment to enriching the lives in the communities in which it operates through the MTN Foundation. As a result of that commitment, he said �MTN continues to invest heavily through the MTN Ghana Foundation in support of the nation�s health, education and economic empowerment initiatives.� He also informed the President of on-going investments that MTN has made to further raise the bar for Ghanaians. According to him, the company�s $90 million investment in the West Africa Cable System (WACS) to roll-out a nationwide optical fibre networks to link Ghana to Europe and the Americas achieved a great feat when the submarine cables successfully landed at South La in Accra last week. Mr. Ikpoki was accompanied by the Corporate Services Director of MTN Ghana, Mawuena Trebarh. The Deputy Minister of Communications, Ernest Attuquaye Armah, was also present.
