COVID-19 Contact Tracing APP Did Not Cost Country Any Money - Ursula Owusu-Ekuful

The Minister-designate for Communication and Digitization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said the development and launch of an App for COVID-19 contact tracing in the country did not cost the government any amount of money.

According to the Minister-designate, the App was developed free of charge for the country by a private I.T firm and launched in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service.

She made this known in response to a question when she appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting on Monday.

She said the use of the App by the public is not compulsory.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said controversy about the App after its launch affected public perception and usage of the App.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications(MoC launched a new app that according to them will help in tracing people who have come into contact with COVID-19 positive individuals.

The user-friendly and free to download mobile software application was available for android and iOS devices.

Its intend for productivity assistance was supposed to augment the state's effort in the fight against the global pandemic.

Communications and Digitization Minister-designate Ursula Owusu-Ekuful at the launch indicated that the software will trace anyone who has come into contact with persons carrying the COVID—19 virus.
