Act Firmly To End The Confusion In The NDC - Old Guards

The Old Guards Association of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the National Executive Committee of the party to put its feet down to end the creeping indiscipline among some top members of the party. They expressed the fear that the current confusion and disorder, if not properly managed, could spell doom for the party. This is why the leadership needs to invoke all the powers given to it by NDC constitution to restore some level of sanity, the Association said in a statement. The Old Guards likened current developments in the NDC to events that proceeded the December 1981 coup detat thatr toppled the Peoples National Party (PNP) government and said such tragedy should not be allowed. The statement said majority of Ghanaians elected President John Atta Mills to lead the nation and until the next general polls, he would continue to be the Head of State. It was the duty of all Ghanaians therefore to accord him respect. It said the NDC had structures and every one of them must be accepted and made to work, adding that, all internal problems must be tackled within the framework of the partys constitution. Respect for party structures is the most important ingredient in maintaining cohesion and solidarity. Where this is lacking, one can expect nothing but fiasco and disappointment. The statement advised party executives who were working at cross-purpose with the general leadership of the party to desist from telling tales to get sympathy from delegates to the July congress. The contesting candidates do not gain any advantage from bitter insults and childish complaints. The Old Guards suggested that the party stayed together to carry out its mandate of creating a better Ghana for all. The statement said no one politician could change the situation in the country within two years and bring about a change that we can all feel in our pockets in record time. It said they had no doubt that given President Mills performance so far, he would be able to fulfil his election promises to Ghanaians.
