The Presbyterian College of Education at Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of Asante Region, over the weekend held its 13th Congregation for 2020 graduates who have successfully undertaken a 3-year Diploma in Basic Education programme under the Institute of Education, University of Education, Winneba. 

Present at the graduation ceremony were dignitaries from all spheres of life.

They included members of the Governing Council of the College chaired by Prof. Kwasi Adarkwa, former Vice Chanecellor, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Rev Dr. Anokye Nkansah, Asante Akyem Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon.  Andy Appia-Kubi, Principals of sister Colleges of Education among other prominent members. 

Rev. Dr. Mrs. Grace Sintim-Adasi, Principal of the College congratulated the graduates for the feat chalked. She also used the opportunity to thank members of the Governing Council, former leaders and staff of the College for their selfless service. 

She mentioned some of the challenges the school is facing at the moment which included deplorable roads on the campus and the lack of generator to light up the school during power outages. She said fixing the roads would not only be of great benefit to the college but the community at large.

The Principal mentioned that the College is currently running a four-year Bachelor of Education Program (B-Ed) to replace the three-year Diploma in Education Program.

She said the College is affiliated to the University of Education Winneba for institutional support in curriculum and capacity building.

Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev Prof. Joaseph Obiri Yeboah Mante addressing the graduating students said the Church established schools to provide holistic education for the people by training the heart, the head and the hand.

He said when you enter any Presbyterian school, it expected that you will be academically good, which is the head, you devote your heart to God to change your inner person, and also trained you to acquire some vocation which is the hand.

He congratulated the graduands on their performance and advised them to continue to work hard in the field of work to fit the image of the school.

Graduating students

In all, 317 students graduated with Diploma in Basic Education. They formed the last batch of diploma students because the colleges of education have now been upgraded into degree awarding intuitions.

Sixteen students obtained First Class honours, 71 had Second Class (Upper Division), 112 were awarded second (Class lower) while 85 and 33 had third class and pass respectively.
