A female intern journalist at the Metro TV office in Kumasi was allegedly violently attacked by an irate-looking District Chief Executive (DCE.) but managed to escape harm. Mavis Animah Yeboah of Metro TV reportedly dashed to safety when the DCE of Amansie West in the Ashanti region, Oti Prempeh, charged on her at the Ghana National Cultural Centre in Kumasi during a function on Wednesday morning. The journalist attempted to greet the DCE but instead of responding to the lady�s greeting, Hon. Prempeh decided to slap her, but the young journalist, recognizing his intentions, moved her head to escape being slapped. The DCE�s actions were allegedly influenced by the fact that the Metro TV reporter had recently written stories which exposed the poor road networks, water and sanitation challenges at Amansie West. Looking furious, the DCE, after the initial foiled attack, left the scene, only to return in a matter of seconds in an attempt to pounce on the young lady, but the Metro TV reporter again raced to safety. Hon. Prempeh gave her a hot chase and managed to give her a blow on the back. Fearing for his colleague�s life, Eddie Ameh of Net 2 TV rushed to the scene to save the hapless looking Metro TV reporter who was by then panting for breath. The Amansie West DCE, who was however bent on venting his spleen on the poor lady, pushed Mr. Ameh aside but by that time the Metro TV reporter had run away. When contacted, Hon. Prempeh said it was not true that he furiously attacked the young journalist, as she was claiming, noting that he was utterly surprised about the allegations being made against him. He said he was late for a function at the Ghana National Cultural Centre, which was attended by the Vice President, so he was in a hurry to get to the programme. Hon. Prempeh said whilst on his way, the Metro TV and the Net 2 reporters whom he knew very well approached him but he told them to give way since he was already late for the event. He said he was therefore surprised that the Metro TV reporter had decided to paint a picture which indicated that he violently attacked her, stressing that the allegation was false. Meanwhile, Mr. Ameh of Net 2 confirmed to Daily Guide that indeed the Amansie West DCE tried to manhandle the young female journalist and he saved the girl from being attacked.
