Reliable information reaching Daily Guide indicates that most parents in the Brong Ahafo regional capital Sunyani have started moving their wards from public to private schools because of the recent frequent strike actions taken by public school teachers. One parent in the area who is also a teacher said she is taking her two sons to private schools because she doesn�t know when the teachers will finally call of their strike action. Madam Faustina said she took the decision after some of her colleague teachers did the same thing to ensure stable education for their children. She expressed her frustration over the situation and admitted it is not the children�s fault that they are suffering this hardship. The teachers� strike action has been going on for almost three weeks now leading to the recent mass transfer of children from public to private schools. Although she complained of the high school fees being charged at the private schools, the teacher said she will do her best to get a good education for the children so that they will not suffer like she is suffering now as a teacher. Madam Faustina who teaches at one of the public schools at Fiapre in the Sunyani municipality called on the leadership of NAGRAT and GNAT to meet with the right people and negotiate with them so that they can get back to the classroom and teach the children whose parents cannot afford private school tuition. Daily Guide checks also show that most of the children being transferred are junior high school pupils whose parents fear might fail the next Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) due to the inconsistent nature of the public school teachers� strike action. This has also given the opportunity to private schools in the area to intensify advertisements for enrolments and the quality education they offer, to get more attention from parents seeking alternative schools for their wards.
