We Will Make Crime Unattractive For Criminals - IGP Assures Public

The Inspector General of Police, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has given the assurance that his outfit will soon make crime very unattractive for miscreants in the country.

According to him, it is about time criminals are smoked out of their hiding place and made to face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent to others whose stock in trade is crime.

The Acting Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwasi Fori, made this known in an interview with the media.

Speaking on Okay FM's Ade Akye Abia programme, ACP Kwasi Fori explained that the Inspector General Police is putting in place adequate mechanisms to ensure that policing becomes a shared responsibility.

"Most crimes happen in the communities and these criminals live in the communities with these people who are scared to inform the police, but the police administration under the leadership of COP Dampare is ensuring that members of the community are emboldened and encouraged to report criminals to the police," he said.

Referring to what happened at Abesim over the weekend where a young man is reported to have murdered three (3) kids and kept their bodies in the fridge, he applauded members of the community for assisting the police with vital information.

"Though the case has been brought to Accra for thorough investigations to be conducted, we have asked the families to select one person who will liaise with the police to ensure there is proper coordination between the families and the police as the matter is being investigated," he added.

The Police, in the early hours of Saturday, arrested and placed in custody Richard Appiah, a 28-year-old architect and a popular footballer, in connection with the crime.

Appiah, allegedly murdered his 12-year-old relative, Louis Agyemamg Junior and kept the body in his room.

A further search by the police discovered some human parts, including two human heads, in a refrigerator.

Police are yet to identify the remaining victims.
