AU Is A Monumental Failure Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has posited that the African Union (AU) is a monumental failure as per the implementation of its objectives, mission and vision and also for lacking the ability to protect its member states. 25th May of every year is set aside by the African Union to commemorate the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now known as the African Union Day. The Day also celebrates African Unity and what true African renaissance stands for. This years Africa Union Day was celebrated under the theme: Accelerating Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development. Speaking to the issue as a panelist on Radio Golds current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji, Mr. Kwesi Pratt maintained that the AU has not been successful in its vision, mission and objectives. According to him, its inability to protect its member states including safeguarding their resources is an indictment on the august body. The African Union has been a monumental failure because it has not been able to protect National Sovereignty of African States. It has not made any impact to pool African resources togetherToday, things happen in Africa and you would have to wait for months without any African intervention from the AU. It is a total disgrace and I feel embarrassed by the AU and its position..., he said. Touching on the recent political stalemate in Cote dIvoire and the on-going NATO strike on Libya, he argued that if the AU had done what was expected of it, the situation would not have deteriorated to such a level. He called for collectiveness on the part of all African states and a united front against foreign intervention in Africa. What is the way forward? Wake up African peoplewhat is wrong? We need to act collectively to protect our national interest and resources so that no predator forces can take over Africa again; to ensure that Africans will never be captured and turned into slaves. That is the mandate of AU and the AU has a responsibility to achieve that mandate, he stated.
