The Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has urged all Ivorians seeking refuge in Ghana to return home and help in the nation�s rebuilding process. More than a million Ivorians fled the country during the political stalemate to seek refuge in Ghana and various African Countries. Over six thousand refugees who came to Ghana settled in the Ampain camp in the Western region while others settled in various communities in other regions. Ivory Coast has since returned to normalcy after Laurent Gbagbo was captured by French forces on 11 April 2011. President Ouattara has since been sworn in as the new President of Ivory Coast. Speaking at a ceremony to swear in the newly elected President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, President Ouattara said he has held discussions with President Mills to ensure that all Ivorian refugees return home. President Ouattara noted that the tension in Ivory Coast has settled down and it was the right time for all Ivorian Refugees to return home to contribute their quota to redevelop the country. �We have discussed about the situation of Ivorian Refugees and also many of the High Officials who are in Ghana and I am urging them to return to Cote d�Ivoire because the situation now has settled down�. President Ouattara assured that his government is working on the nation�s security system to ensure that there is adequate security for all Ivorians who wish to return home. President Ouattara also lauded President Mills for his role in ensuring that peace returned to Cote d�Ivoire. President Mills on his part gave the assurance that his government would continue to support Ivory Coast and ensure that there is relative peace in the country. He added that his government would facilitate the return of the over 6,000 Ivorian refugees in Ghana so they can help in the rebuilding of their country.
