Inusah Fuseini "Eats" Back Words...Withdraws Demand

Peacefmonline.com can confirm that the NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Hon Inusah Fuseini has withdrawn his earlier demand that the NPP MP for Fanteakwa be hauled before the Privileges Committee of Parliament for allegedly lumping all Northerners together and describing them as people with a poverty mentality and also for insinuating that they are lazy. The Speaker of Parliament was expected to respond to Hon. Fuseinis demand to drag the MP before the Privileges Committee based on the content of the said sound bite. But the NDC MP, on Thursday June 2, said he has decided to back down on his demand for his colleague MP to be referred to the Privileges Committee are twofold. "Hon Asiamah has retracted the comments deemed to be uncomplimentary...and the Minority Leader, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu rendered apology to those who might have been offended by the Fanteakwa MPs comments," the Tamale Central MP said. He, however, stressed that the decision not to push for the NPP MP to face the Privileges Committee is not because his claims are untrue, but because leaders of both sides of the House had asked that the matter be discussed at the leadership level since it was a sensitive issue. I have not withdrawn the matter as a matter that leadership should not handle. But what I have withdrawn is the invitation to the Speaker to refer the conduct of the Hon. MP to Privileges Committee. And in hearing the sentiments of the House, we thought that in matters as sensitive as this, in their view, they felt that opportunity should be given to leadership to try to address the situation and I thought that it is a wise move. "That doesnt derogate from the fact that the MP for Fanteakwa made some remarks on Peace FM that were derogatory of people of Northern descent. The fact that he apologized for those comments reinforces what I said yesterday(June 1), the Tamale Central MP told Citifm. More soon....
