Fanteakwa MP Must ApologizeTo Northerners - Spokesperson For NPP

Mustapha Hamid, spokesperson for the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has condemned NPP Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah, for suggesting that the under development of Northern Ghana is as a result of the attitude of its people who fail to take up opportunities available to them. Mustapha Hamid said the MP spoke out of gross ignorance and has called on him to apologize for his unsavory comments. Hon Asiamah made the comments on Tuesday May 31, when he was contributing to a radio discussion on SADA. He suggested that the initiative may fail if the people of the North failed to adopt the right attitudes and eschew vandalism. According to him, the continuous poverty cycle of the north is mind boggling given the vast and fertile agricultural lands available. The comments have since ignited heated debate in the public and Parliament where the Deputy Energy Minister, Hon. Inusah Fuseini raised the matter and is demanding the leadership to look into the compliant. Speaking to Citi News, Mustapha Hamid said Mr Asiamah has shown gross ignorance about the history of the nation and contribution of Northerners to the countrys development. What the MP said is absolutely condemnable. It is a pity that someone like that is in the legislature or a member of the NPP. His own Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo said he was going to do a Northern Development Authority, that was going to make the North not just the bread basket of Ghana but the whole of the Sahel. Hon. Asiamah ought to apologize to the people of the North, for him to classify all Northern people as people who are pillars of understanding, ignorance and so on. There are inhibiting cultures not only in Ghana but across the whole of Africa and if he wants us to school him on what is responsible for the retardation of the law we shall take him to school on that. Mustapha Hamid noted that he is saddened by the MP's comment and has therefore apologized to all Northerners on behalf of Nana Akufo Addo and reiterated the NPPs commitment to bridging the North-South divide. What he said is absolute balderdash, gross ignorance and I am very sorry for him. On behalf of my candidate I want to apologize sincerely to all Northerners so that there is no collateral damage to the NPP as a party.
