Samia Charges On Detractors

THE ONLY representative of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in Parliament, Samia Yabah Nkrumah has rubbished charges against her competence and viability to contest and become the partys chairperson. According to her charges of inexperience and accusations of running a dynasty in the CPP are not only frivolous but lack credibly and therefore should not be taken serious by any delegate in the party. Samia Nkrumah made the remarks in Ho when she met party delegates drawn from all parts of the region. She said her opponents claim she is young and for that matter inexperienced, a charge she noted was neither here nor there. She refuted this charge by asking the delegates two simple questions: Is bad leadership good experience? If you repeat doing things wrongly, does it necessarily guarantee experience? Then all the delegates who had gathered at the hall in one voice replied, No to both questions. She noted that the claim by many that she was given the Jomoro parliamentary seat on a silver platter was far from the truth. According to her, it was the first time the CPP had contested alongside the two major parties, the NPP and NDC in that constituency, yet with meticulous planning, resourcefulness and commitment, her team was able to win the seat. The Jomoro MP noted that under leadership, her constituency and other surrounding communities have functioning party offices. More so, with the help of her team, the constituency executives and the district assembly, she has been able to respond to 80% of the constituencys needs which include bridges, schools, boreholes, a maternity home, vocational school and a micro credit scheme among others. She said by virtue of being the only CPP MP, she has become a leading member of the party adding that she has defended the partys values and ideals both in parliament and globally. On the charge of creating a dynasty in the CPP, the daughter of Ghanas first President and founding member of the CPP, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, said after over 4 decades of her fathers involvement in the party, no other member of her family had held a leading position in the party. She said if she took pride in creating a dynasty, she wouldnt have adopted Jomoro, revamped or increased the CPPs fortunes there. She noted that if her detractors stop making empty accusations and adopt other constituencies to increase the CPPs fortunes, the party will be better of than it is now. She assured candidates that under her leadership, there will be unity among all Nkrumahist parties. If elected, she promised to restructure the party especially at the grassroots to reactivate its presence and activities among the local people. This she said will be done by creating a constituency development fund which will be use to resource the various constituencies. The legislator assured delegates that she would ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of the party. With her international and local experience especially with Jomoro, she would ensure the party designed a clear and simple message to eradicate the wrong impressions about the party over the years. This she said can be easily done because the party already has a clear ideology which needs to be repackaged. She noted that the entire party needs some measure of political education to help reposition it and make it more attractive. All these she noted will be made possible under her chairmanship.
