Prez Mills Doesnt Need Invitation To Attend June 4

President John Mills does not need a formal invitation to be at the 32nd anniversary of the June 4 Uprising slated for the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on Saturday June 4, a member of the planning committee has said. This years celebration which is under the theme Unity in Diversity Our Strength will commence with a route march in Accra from the Kawukudi Junction through 37 Military Hospital to the Revolution Square where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony and the lighting of the perpetual flame. The durbar at the Kumasi Jubilee Park will climax the occasion with deliveries from party members and founder, Jerry John Rawlings who would be the guest of honour. It is not too sure if President John Mills, who is on n nationwide tour, would be part of the event. Numbarr Berrick revealed that even though there has been no official invitation to the President, every member of the party is expected to be part of the event. He explained that he is not aware of any official invitation to the President, but as the leader of the NDC, he doesnt need an official invitation to be part of the celebrations because it has been stipulated in the partys constitution as mandatory celebration just like the 31st December revolution. Speaking on XFMs morning Show the Big Bite on Friday June 3rd 2011, Mr. Berrick explained that, this years theme is to remind the masses that June 4 was born out of probity and accountability and not because of the perceived divisions in the rank and file of the party in the build up to the partys congress in July at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region. It is important for us first as a country to be united and as a people as well the NDC was built on probity, accountability and social justice, without these things, you cannot get the country united in diversity because when there is no social justice, there cannot be unity, he stated. He was of the view that June 4 should not just be an annual ritual celebration by members of the NDC like birthdays but as a uniting factor and to remind young NDC members of the partys principles. Mr Berrick was hopeful that President Mills might make it to the celebrations in Kumasi on Saturday June 4 because he has already ended his tour of the Eastern Region.
