Nana Konadu's Decision To Run Against Mills Is Comical Haruna Iddrisu

Minister of Communication and Member of Parliament for Tamale South has ridiculed former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, describing her bid to contest President Mills in the NDCs flagbearership position as suicidal and comical. According to him, there is no way Nana Konadu can defeat the incumbent, President Mills, to win the flagbearership of the NDC for 2012 Elections. Contrary to expectations that the former First Lady will rescind her decision to contest incumbent President Johns Evans Atta Mills in the Presidential slot of the ruling NDC, Nana Konadu submitted her nomination forms to the party in pursuit of her presidential ambition on Wednesday, June 1. Mrs. Rawlings submission was done on the quiet just like President Mills, without the usual fanfare that surrounded the picking of forms last month through Kofi Adams, a Deputy General-Secretary of the NDC and spokesperson for the Rawlingses. Speaking however on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana show, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu reiterated that he has no confidence in Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings as the flagbearer of the NDC. My honest view is that the former first lady has embarked on a suicidal and comical mission because my assessment on the ground is that it is not just simple for her to beat Mills in the NDC race and the Mills camp is unperturbed about her contesting, he stated. According to him, choosing the former First Lady as flagbearer of the party may undermine the NDCs prospect of consolidating power and will in the final analysis lead the ruling party into opposition. I have said that I have no confidence in a Konadu flagbearership; it may possibly undermine the NDC prospects of consolidating power and lead the NDC into political opposition. I have no faith at all in her ability to carry the rest of the country along. This contest is not just about NDC flagbearership, it is about who can consolidate the NDC poll of power and you need the success of the Better Ghana Agenda of President Mills to even lead, he reiterated. He noted that President Mills recognizes the role former President Rawlings has played and make references to some of his legacies which are enviable, stressing that the core principle that the NDC is pursuing is unity into 2012.
