COCOBOD Denies Witch-Hunting Anti-Government Staff

The Ghana COCOBOD has denied media reports that some employees believed to be anti-Government elements have been transferred and in some cases sacked, following their criticism of the CEOs alleged involvement in some shady deals. A Daily Guide publication said two Directors of the General Services Department, have been transferred to the Special Duties Department, which was created by the CEO, Mr. Anthony Fofie. Their crime was said to be failing to circumvent the bidding process in favour of business sympathizers of the NDC. According to the Paper, the Director of Audit has also been asked to go home because the CEO suspected he had leaked a story about the organization to the media. Irate workers further told the Paper that the CEO has threatened to sack others for discovering a corrupt deal to which he was a party. He has been accused of partaking in the alleged deal with one Tom Brown, a foot soldier of the ruling NDC. Following these occurrences, the aggrieved workers have called for the CEOs removal from office, and urged Government to look into the matter to stop the unnecessary transfers which could jeopardize the organizations attempts to help Ghana boost cocoa production to 1 million tonnes by 2012. But the Public Affairs Director of COCOBOD, Noah Amanyah, has told Citi News the allegations are unfounded. According to him, Mr. Fofie has worked diligently to raise the status of the cocoa industry regulator, and that the allegations were mere fabrications aimed at tarnishing his reputation. This particular instance that the paper is quoting is flawed. There had only been a decision by the Board of Directors that we should do some changes in the directorship in certain departments to bring some more efficiency. So it was agreed that a special office should be created for the Director of General Services. So it was just a concocted story that was put out there he said. If there is any blessing that COCOBOD has had, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Anthony Fofie has been a blessing to the industry. Having worked in the industry for over 34 years, he has his rich experience which has come to bear on his administration. So he has not been found in any corrupt deal. So this was just meant to tarnish his hard earned reputation he noted.
