NPP Has Made A 'Very Smart' Move - Pratt Applauds Party Leadership on Parliamentary Primaries

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has applauded the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their choice of date for their parliamentary elections.

The parliamentary primaries will be held on 24th February, 2024. Nominations will open on the 20th of December, 2023 and close on December 20, 2023.

According to him due to the hung nature of the current parliament it was prudent for the party to shift its primaries to next year just as they have done.

"It is a very smart move from the NPP. They have been very smart," he told Kwami Sefa on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme.

"The most sensible thing to do is to postpone the parliamentary election, push it as far as possible because of the numbers, that is what the NPP has found it sensible to do. This is a smart move, it is very clear the NPP has made a very smart move," he emphasized, insisting the NDC should have done same instead of their current schedule.

"If the NDC goes to the primaries and two, three, four lose they can't get any business done in parliament . . ." he said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) barring any unforeseen circumstances will be holding its presidential primary on November 4, 2023, to elect a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Opening of nominations will be on 26th May 2023.

A statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the party, further “barred the National, Regional, Constituency party executives and MMDCEs from contesting in constituencies where the Party has sitting Members of Parliament”.
