You Can't Secure Common IMF Deal But Want To Be Prez . . . You Can't Deliver! - ASEPA Director Blasts Dr. Bawumia

Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), has taken a jab at the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over his candidature to become the next President of Ghana.

Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Mensah Thompson blasted Dr. Bawumia describing him as a failed leader and the governing New Patriotic Party for aggravating the plight of Ghanaians.

"As we speak, the number of taxes on fuel prices; about seventeen different taxes on petroleum products. As we speak, we continue to pay COVID tax. We still pay sanitation and pollution tax on petrol . . . 3 years after COVID, we are still paying COVID tax and sanitation and pollution tax . . . and you claim to have done well, so we should clap for you," he said.

He doubted Dr. Bawumia's competence and ability to manage the economy saying, "for the first time under Dr. Bawumia, Ghana is struggling to get an IMF programme . . . It has never happened before. Did we even suffer this much when we were going into HIPC around 2000/2001? Just to secure an IMF programme, Dr. Bawumia cannot deliver . . . Even a common IMF programme, Dr. Bawumia, as the Head of the Economic Management Team, you cannot deliver".

"What message is Dr. Bawumia bringing to campaign for the votes of Ghanaians? What new thing is Dr. Bawumia coming to tell Ghanaians?", he queried.

Also, to him, for the NPP to have a number of candidates contesting to become the party's Presidential candidate shows the party has lost confidence in Dr. Bawumia.

"A sitting Vice President, look at how many people are contesting him. Even his own party doesn't believe him."
