A breakaway group calling itself the Redemption Group of the New Patriotic Party in the Tema West Constituency, has thrown their unflinching support behind Mr Abraham Osei Aidoo�s decision to contest the constituency seat as an independent candidate. Mr Aidoo, who was the former Member of Parliament for the constituency, announced his intension to contest the seat last week after Madam Irene Naa Torshie Addo, the incumbent MP was declared unopposed during the recent NPP Parliamentary primaries. In a copy of a press statement issued at the weekend by Dr Martin Antwi, former first Vice Chairman of the party in the constituency, who is the Chairman of the group, indicated that �the Redemption Group would like to throw our unflinching support and weight behind the former majority leader�. The statement further announced that the Redemption Group was prepared to be with Mr Aidoo throughout the campaign come 2012. The Group noted that they believed the party was at its crossroad in the constituency, adding that if measures were not taken to restore the confidence of the general electorate of the constituency in the party, they would allow the arrangements put in place by the sitting MP to derail the gains of the party in the constituency. They added that in order to prevent the lost of the constituency seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) come 2012, they have decided to give their full support to Mr Aidoo for taking a bold decision to contest as an independent candidate. �We are therefore calling on all party faithful who are dispirited as a result of the arrogance behavior of the sitting MP to be steadfast since we now have an alternative and come out strongly to help us in our quest to uproot this dictatorial regime and restore confidence in our teeming supporters for victory 2012�, the statement added. The statement indicated that the Redemption Group was formed out of the disenfranchisement of the ordinary members of the party during the constituency polling station election in 2009. �The composition of this group is made of former constituency officers, patrons and all hard working polling station executives whose hard work saw the party winning two general election in 2000 and 2004�, it stated.
