Black Sherif Must Face the Law . . . No Out of Court Settlement - Mr. Logic Tells Cruise People

Entertainment critic, Mr. Logic has dissented to the decision to settle out of court a dispute between Cruise People Limited and musician Black Sherif.

Black Sherif was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport following a complaint by the company, Cruise People Limited, for breaching their terms and conditions of an agreement to perform at a function to be held by the company.

The CEO of Cruise People Limited, Daniel Vanderpuye, in a statement, claimed the company had paid Black Sherif $20,000 as half payment of $40,000 for him to perform at its Afro Cruise Jam, a cruise show scheduled for Greece and Turkey in August this year.

As part of the agreement, the musician was to do a video of him hyping the show by May 19 which would be used to promote the upcoming event but he failed to fulfill his end, resulting in his arrest.

As a result of his failure to confirm his participation, the cabins on the cruise ship which were paid for and reserved at a discounted price had to be cancelled and deposits lost since the expected interests and patronage of the event could not be guaranteed. He deliberately failed to perform his part of the agreement despite several reminders sent to his agents.

"Our company's lawyers wrote and informed him, his management, and booking agents on May 23, 2023, about the breach of agreement and till date, they haven't replied.

“At this point, we had no option than to report his fraudulent actions to the police and proceed to court for redress and seek reliefs,"
parts of the statement read.

Reports however indicate that the company and Black Sherif have agreed to settle the case out of court.

But Mr. Logic thinks this decision isn’t right as, to him, sometimes people have to dance to the law to deter others from repeating their actions.

“ . . nobody should ask for out of court settlement. This is an issue that they should go and defend themselves so that other artistes who are signing contracts, they will take cue from this,” he said while delivering his comments during UTV’s entertainment show “United Showbiz” on Saturday.

We are in a professional environment. Why do we always say out of court settlement?”, he questioned.

He also advised the musician saying “Sherif should wake up!”
