There Is Nothing Wrong Naming University of Ghana After J.B Danquah – Fmr Head of History, Legon

A former Head of the History and Political Section of the University of Ghana, Dr Ebenezer Ayesu says consideration to rename the University of Ghana is laudable and if possible, must take an immediate effect.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', the historian said, “There's nothing wrong with the University of Ghana being named after J.B. Danquah” as suggested by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The President has been in the news with his thoughts that the country’s premier university, the University of Ghana, must be renamed after one of the founders of Ghana, J. B. Danquah.

The first gentleman whiles addressing a gathering during the 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the University of Ghana detailed some of the events that led up to the influences that both J. B. Danquah and some other founding members of the country had on the decision to build the country’s first public university.

President Akufo-Addo described JB Danquah’s role in the establishment of the University of Ghana as an ‘inestimable work,’ after suggesting the school should be named after him as a reward.

Many want the school’s name unchanged but Dr Ebenezer Ayesu says he supports the president’s decision.
