Bugri Naabu Leaked Tape: I Feel Sad For You - Nana Akomea To COP Alex Mensah And Supt. Asare

STC Chief Executive Officer, Nana Akomea has expressed disappointment in COP Alex Mensah and Superintendent George Asare over their alleged plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

COP Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare are currently before a Parliamentary Committee probing a leaked tape that establishes their plot against the IGP.

The officers, on June 19, 2023, had a meeting at the office of Daniel Bugri Naabu, a member of the governing New Patriotic Party, at Osu in Accra and expressed their grievances about the IGP.

On the said tape which was secretly recorded were voices accusing the IGP of shirking his responsibilities; the officers raised concerns that the IGP may cause the ruling New Patriotic Party to lose the 2024 elections, therefore called for his removal.

Reacting to the leaked tape during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Nana Akomea described senior officers' attempt to remove the IGP their as a "big miscalculation".

"It's not good and I feel sad for the two Commissioners", he said, adding "it's so funny that these high officers would ply this path to go and plot against the IGP".

Nana Akomea found it ridiculous that the officers could harbor thoughts that the IGP can influence the outcome of an election.

"How can the IGP determine the outcome of an election?", he queried.

He argued that "if the IGP [Inspector General of Police] can determine the outcome of an election, no ruling party would lose elections in this country because every IGP is appointed by the ruling party".

Nana Akomea also questioned the logic in the officers meeting with Bugri Naabu over their alleged IGP misconduct.

"What role does he play in the Police?", he asked.

To him, what the officers did "is just a conspiracy" against the IGP.
