Bear This In Mind; Not Everybody Will Like You! - Dr. Otchere-Ankrah To IGP

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has bemoaned the allegations leveled against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare by some senior officers of the Police Service.

COP Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare are currently facing a parliamentary probe over a leaked audio recording that was done by Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), when the three met to plot against the IGP.

The officers seek the removal of Dr. Akuffo Dampare from office on grounds of nepotism and mistreatment of Police officers.

The IGP is also accused of working against the governing New Patriotic Party to lose the 2024 elections.

During the parliamentary probe, COP Alex Mensah described the IGP as the worst the Service has had, stressing he is "not correct".

Dr. Otchere-Ankrah, a lecturer at the Central University, has condemned COP Mensah over his choice of words regarding the IGP.

He stated emphatically that it is not true that Dr. Dampare is the worst Inspector General of Police.

To him, these things are said of the IGP because his accusers cannot accept the changes he (Dampare) is making in the Service.

"Who can say when there is a change, he will get 100% acceptance. There is none; there is always resistance...there are some people who won't have things their way because of the changes, so they will stand against it," he rebuked the officers.

He also slammed COP Mensah over his wild allegations against the IGP, replying "you know the statements you made are not right and at your level, it shouldn't have come from your mouth. You know it but you said it".

Dr. Otchere-Ankrah applauded Dr. Dampare for the massive transformation in the Service under his leadership, asserting that "from what we know and what we see, this IGP has really performed and is still performing" and also advised him to "bear in mind that not everybody will like him".

He made these comments during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
