Family Hides Dead Mum In House To Get Her Benefits

A TV actress left her elderly mum's corpse rotting in a bedroom for up to six months so she could pocket her 200 benefits. Brookside extra Hazel Maddock, 61, and daughter Jasmine were yesterday told they faced jail after they admitted failing to report the death of Olive, 95. Police found her remains behind her bedroom door in the foul-smelling, rat-infested semi in Wallasey, Merseyside. Hazel also pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming state pension and top-up credits for Olive. Neighbours yesterday said they were horrified to learn what Hazel and artist Jasmine, 35, had been up to. One said: "What they did is disgusting. And for a few extra quid. They're the lowest of the low." A family friend added: "Olive was such a kindly old lady. It sends my blood cold to think of her lying there. "I asked after Olive's health several times but Hazel said she wasn't up to coming out and had 'gone a bit loopy'. I didn't notice a smell - but the people next door did." Jasmine sobbed yesterday as Liverpool Crown Court was told of the grim discovery of her grandmother's corpse.
