Nana Akomea has rebuked Alan Kyerematen for choosing to resign from the New Patriotic Party to run as independent candidate in the 2024 elections.

"I joined the New Patriotic Party at the very beginning of its establishment as a Founding Member, believing in its core values and the long-standing traditions of its antecedents, predicated on fairness, equity, probity, accountability, and transparency.

" . . the NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture. The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, 'behind the curtain power brokers” and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks," Alan expressed his disappointment in the New Patriotic Party during a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 25.

He noted, after examining the recent happenings in the party which, to him, were unfavorable towards him; he believes that "what Ghana needs now is a new leader and not a new political party".

" . . under the circumstances, and given the context provided I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the NPP to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana as an independent presidential candidate," he announced.

He is also convinced he is the new leader that Ghana requires, emphasizing "what Ghana needs now is CHANGE, which will provide long-lasting solutions to the challenges confronting our country".

Alan further noted his inspiration comes from some leaders who set remarkable records in the world, mentioning "George Washington and Abraham Lincoln of the United States of America, Winston Churchill of Great Britain, Mahatma Gandhi of India, Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, Deng Xiaoping of China, and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana".

But to Nana Akomea, it is becoming Alan's character to quit the NPP anytime he feels something doesn't go his way.

He referenced a similar action that the former Trade Minister took in previous years when he failed to win any of the presidential contests in the New Patriotic Party.

"This is the same thing that happened in 2008. Seventeen (17) candidates contested the NPP flagbearer race, at the end, only Alan Kyerematen resigned out of the seventeen people. It is becoming his attitude. When you check the record, it is becoming his character," he said on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".

Nana Akomea questioned Alan's assertion that what Ghana needs is an independent candidate, not a political party as he believed an independent candidate will ensure "a Government of National Unity".

"When did he realize that political parties are not important? If you say you are leaving the NPP because you have seen that the political parties are not important but rather someone who is a great leader, when did you discover this?

From your own mouth, you say you wanted to contest in 1996. You contested in 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2023; just last month and if you are now leaving, you say you have seen that the political parties are not relevant but what is important is someone with a vision. When did you know that political parties are not important?", he asked and reminded Alan Kyerematen that the names he mentioned like the Kwame Nkrumahs and others were all members of a political party.
