Cadres In Government Challenged

Members of the United Cadre Front of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East region have called on all the party cadres in government to uphold and promote the principles of probity and accountability at all times to give meaning to their belief in the June 4 Revolution. The cadres also reminded President Mills of his promise to compensate all dedicated cadres, who were sacked from various organizations, including the National Mobilization Programme in 2001. According to them, if President Mills reneges on his promise in this direction, many cadres, who are suffering as a result of their dismissal, will be disillusioned. A statement signed by the Upper East Regional Chairman of the United Cadres Front, Comrade Noble Alagskoma Asakeya, to commemorate the June 4 Uprising, said there is still some time for the Council of Elders of the party to convince Mrs. Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to rescind her decision to contest President John Mills, who is the leader of the NDC at the partys impending National Congress scheduled for Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region. According to them, if their appeal to the council of elders and the former first lady is considered before the scheduled date it will strengthen the spirit of continuity and unity in the NDC ahead of the 2012 general elections. We, the members of the United Cadres Front, still support and share in the ideologies and concerns of the Founder of the NDC, Flt Lt Rawlings. We are however of the conviction that the withdrawal of Mrs. Rawlings from the race for the presidential slot of the party will be of great benefit to the NDC as party in power ahead of the 2012 general elections. It is also important to note that party members need to be circumspect in their utterances ahead of the National Congress. We however call on them to assist in projecting the policies and programmes of the NDC government to members of the public. Considering the problems some government appointees have with the public and party members, we suggest that a workshop be organized on public relations skills and communication skills for government appointees to enhance their daily interactions and other dealings with the public and party faithful to avoid these problems they find themselves in. Meanwhile, persons believed to be working towards the victory of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings seem to be touring the various corners of the region and Bolgatanga, as some white pick-ups with her pictures are seen criss-crossing the municipality. Posters of the former first Lady and President of the 31st December Women Movement, with inscription, For Victory have been pasted on most available space in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
