STATEMENT: Despite Media On UTV Attackā€¦Assures Staff Of Safety

The Management of Despite Media has condemned a recent thuggery invasion of its UTV studio, Saturday.

Over 20 thugs said to be members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) attacked the studios of UTV during the United Showbiz programme.

Their aim was to make Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A-Plus, apologize for tearing up a letter sent to UTV by the party. This halted the programme for over 40 minutes.

The Ghana Journalist Association, government, NPP, NDC and other organizations have strongly condemned this action.

In a statement, Despite Media also condemned “this act of violence and vandalism as it violates our fundamental Human rights and Freedoms, and the independence of the media as enshrined under Chapters 5 and 12 respectively of the 1992 constitution of our country”

"We understand that this event has caused concern amonst stakeholders and we want to assure you that, we are taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of our workers, guests, properties, clients and the interest of all other stakeholders.

We also wish to reassure our employees that we are here for you and will put in place all the necessary measures to ensure your safety at the workplace" portions of the statement read.
