Carlos Ahenkorah Confirms Decision To Bow Out of Parliament and Fully Support Dr. Bawumia

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West constituency, Carlos Ahenkorah, has confirmed that he will not seek re-election in 2024.

Some Members of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have reportedly declared their intention to retire from parliamentary work.

These MPs include Carlos Ahenkorah, Daniel Kwaku Botwe, MP for Okere, who doubles as the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Decentralisation, Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South in the Eastern region; and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Suame.

The rest are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central; Joe Osei Owusu, first deputy speaker and MP for Bekwai; KT Hammond, Minister of Trade and Industry and MP for Adansi Asokwa; and Francisca Oteng, MP for Kwabre East.

During an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Carlos Ahenkorah explained that he wants to take on a different role, which is to fully support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

"I feel I can channel my energy into something more beneficial, which is the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President, and it is a role I can play very well."

Meanwhile, Carlos has shot down claims that he once accused the Vice President, who is the presidential candidate of the NPP, of being incompetent when he declared his support for Alan Kyerematen.

"Dr. Bawumia and I are very, very close, and there’s no way I’ll stand anywhere to say he’s incompetent. I’m never against him. It can never be the case that my decision is because of Alan Kyerematen. I am NPP through and through. I’ve received a lot of calls trying to change my mind, but my mind is made up," he said.
