The Deputy Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the Mills-Mahama government to stop playing on the emotions of the chiefs and people of Dagbon over the death of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu II and rather find his killers.
Haruna Iddrisu challenged the government to admit it had disappointed the people of Dagbon by failing to find the killers of the late Dagbon overlord despite promising to find those responsible whilst seeking their vote in the run up to the 2008 elections.
According to him, the NDC has lost the right to claim it would ensure justice for the Dagbon state in the Ya-Na death and should now focus on reconciling the feuding Abudu and Andani factions.
The Deputy Regional Secretary of the main opposition party was responding to recent outburts by some leading members of the ruling NDC following Kofi Adams� claim in Tamale that the Attorney General�s Department had in its possession evidence in the form of a video tape that could be used to prosecute those suspected of the killing.
He called on the entire NDC leadership to bow its head in shame and apologize to the good people of Dagbon, especially the Abudus, for arresting and �using� fifteen of their members as �scapegoats� who were finally acquitted and discharged by a competent court of jurisdiction.
He also reminded the NDC of its election 2008 campaign promise to set up an independent and competent committee of inquiry to unravel the mystery surrounding the late Ya-Naa�s death on March 27, 2002.
Harunah Iddrisu nonetheless, made a passionate appeal to the Abudus and Andani families in Dagbon to ignore politicians who continued to divide them on partisan lines and reconcile for peace and prosperity to return to the community.
Harunah Iddrisu also called for the release of five members of the NPP who have been in prison custody since 2009 following a political clash that erupted between NPP and NDC youth at the old Tamale Market.
He said the family of the suspects and NPP members in Tamale have had their patience �overstretched� over the �unlawful detention� of Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaana.
