I Don't Think This Is The Way Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Should Exit - Cletus Avoka

A Former Majority Leader in the erstwhile late John Evans Atta Mills-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, appears saddened and disappointed by the announcement of the resignation of his colleague, former Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Hon Cletus Apul Avoka believes the former NPP Majority Leader should have resigned in a "more elegant and befitting manner."

In the late hours of Wednesday, February 21, Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu tendered his resignation before the crunch meeting with the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

But Cletus Avoka, who is a former Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency, was clearly unhappy with that decision saying; “I am hugely disappointed."

To him, this action by Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will be a great disservice not only to the NPP but to Ghana as a whole.

“I do not think that given just about 10 months to the election and some acknowledgment for the exit, as he has decided not to contest the 2024 elections like myself, I do not think that this is the way he should exit, I think that he should exit in a more elegant and befitting manner.”

In describing the former majority leader and MP for Suame, Cletus Avoka said, Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is his brother and a close ally, having served together on the lands committee in the third Parliament.

“When I was the Majority Leader in the 2009 Parliament, he was the Minority Leader, and we shared a lot of experiences together. We built consensus together, and we passed very critical laws together,” he stated.

It is, however, unclear what might have necessitated the decision by Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to resign as the majority leader.

Meanwhile, a few hours after his resignation, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was named as the 2024 Manifesto Committee Chairman for the Bawumia campaign ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections.
